TRIVIA
Things That You Didn't Learn in the History Books:
The expression "Kick the Tires" came from the Covered Wagon
Days. When the settlers were moving across the continent some of them
and their freight moved in large covered wagons that were called Conestoga
Wagons (Prairie Schooners) which were first built at Conestoga Pennsylvania.
These wagons were expensive to build and after they reached their destination
they were often sold and reused. One of the problems with these wagons
was that the wheels spokes (made of wood) would wear and become loose.
The buyers of these wagons formed the habit of kicking the spokes to determine
the condition of the wheels. As time moved forward, cars came into being
which were also equipped with wooden spokes and people continued to kick
the spokes and of this day people still refer to kicking the wheel to
determine the condition of the car.
